Lily Thomas, a name that can’t be forgotten, an inventor of a new idea, called Public Interest Litigation, has dedicated her entire life to convert our country into a better place to live in. With Constitution as her Bible, she has sailed through the tides of her profession as a lawyer to invent new ideas so as to revamp the administration of our country in parity with the vision of Constitutional makers. Adv. Saju Jakob, being the legacy holder of Adv. Lily Thomas, along with his colleagues, has been stern to carry forward her vision and mission to create constitutional awareness of equality and fraternity in the society.

About the Competition

On occasion of the 1st Death Anniversary of our beloved Adv. Lily Thomas who left for her heavenly abode on 10th December 2019, the Law Office of Lily Thomas and Saju Jakob organises the Memorial Lecture Series to promote  and accelerate the Constitutional Ethics and Morality among the members of society, especially legal fraternity. Henceforth, we proudly present you the first Article Writing Competition on the topic “Preamble to
the Constitution of India”.  The aim of the competition is to promote lawyers as the inventors for social transformation, which always requires a shift in collective consciousness of society and hence new inventions in the field of law through lawyers.

It is open for all law students, advocates, legal practitioners, legal professionals, and academicians.

Theme

The theme of the article writing competition held as part of the first edition of the Memorial Lecture Series in loving memory of Adv. Lily Thomas, is “Preamble to the Constitution of India”. The participants are required to not only look into the past events/precedents, but also the current scenarios and the future prospects of change, to get the law of the land in consonance with the constitutional values and morality, as in the words of Sh. Jawaharlal Nehru, “The Preamble is not a law, but is something that breathes life in human minds.” The article must not only be in consonance with the topic, but also must justify the theme of the competition which is to be innovative and transformative. Original ideas of the participants will be highly appreciated and rewarded.

Prizes

Winner: Rs. 10,000/- along with Certificate of Appreciation

First runner-up : Rs. 5,000/- along with Certificate of Appreciation

Second Runner-up : Rs. 3,000/- along with Certificate of Appreciation

The articles of top three candidates will be published on our official website.

Top 10 participants will receive an E-certificate of participation.

Participation & Submission Guidelines

Word Limit: 1000-1200 words (excluding footnotes and Abstract).

No co-authorship allowed.

Multiple entries for the same authors are not allowed.

Individual Attachments: Name; contact details; current academic status (if applicable) (Year, University, etc.);   undertaking as to guarantee originality.

Citation Style: 19th Bluebook edition.

The font shall be Times New Roman, Font Size – 12 and Line Spacing to be 1.5.

Important Dates

Last Date of Submission: 30th November 2020 by 23:59 Hrs.

Result Declaration: 10th December 2020

How to submit?

All the interested participants should send their Article along with Abstract to office@lilythomas.org by 30th November’ 2020 with the subject “Lawyers as Inventors”. Participants shall send their personal details/contact details. Any late submission shall strictly not be considered.

Results will be announced on 10th December’ 2020 in the Memorial Lecture Webinar, the details of which will be uploaded later/soon.
