Call for Editors: The Social Chronicle

About the organization

The Praxis Education Trust is dedicated to breaking the current shackles of the education system, enabling young individuals to develop holistically, and further facilitating their personal, social, and educational development. One of the many missions of Praxis is to generate a sense of responsibility and ownership among the young generation for the actions they undertake and to develop their citizenship and involvement in their respective communities, and thereby promote the democratic process with their engagement at the community level.

Pursuant to its vision, Praxis launched The Social Chronicle, a blog dedicated to act as a platform for discourse and deliberation on Socio-Economic Issues, Public Policy, and Law and Society with emphasis on possible solutions. The blog is geared towards the objective of disseminating relevant and responsible information on Socio-Economic, Legal, and Public policy issues, with the hope that it sparks a deliberation among the citizenry which culminates in possible solutions to tackle these contemporary issues.

The Social Chronicle enjoys the support of a diverse and distinguished board of advisors who are actively engaged with us. The distinguished board of advisors of The Social Chronicle consist of the following members: Mr. Sameer Rashid Bhat (Advocate & Rhoades Scholar), Mr. Ravi V.S. Prasad (Defence Analyst & Telecom Consultant), Ms. Radhika Roy (Advocate & Legal Journalist), Mr. Wasim Beg (Partner, Luthra & Luthra), Ms. Sanya Talwar (POSH Expert & Legal Journalist), Ms. Sahreen Shamim (Incoming MPP, Oxford University), Mr. Shivkrit Rai (Senior Research Analyst & Advocate), Mr. Shantanu Pachauri (Advocate & LL.M. Candidate, NLUD), Ms. Javeria Maryam (Senior Research Fellow, Centre For WTO Studies), Ms. Kirthana Singh Khurana (Lecturer, Jindal Global Law School & MCL, Cambridge), Mr. Mani Bhushan Jha (Founder President, Chanakya Policy Foundation & Vice-President, Raindrops Foundation), Ms. Kadambari Agarwal (Associate Fellow, Vidhi Centre For Legal Policy), Mr. Prateek Suman Awasthi (Executive Director, Green Party of Canada & MPP, Columbia University), and Mr. Arjun Philip George (LL.M., Central University of Kerala).

Call for Editors

The editorial board of The Social Chronicle is looking to expand its team. The Social Chronicle invites applications for the editor positions to fulfill the following roles within the internal functioning of the blog.
1. PUBLISHING EDITOR (ONE EDITOR REQUIRED)

Role of the Publishing Editor: The Publishing Editor will publish the final pieces and they will be responsible for the final proof-reading of the pieces before it gets published on the website. The Publishing Editor would also coordinate with the Executive Editors and maintain the publishing pattern of the blog.

Eligibility Criteria: The applicant must be in the penultimate or final year of any undergraduate degree. The applicant must have a fair understanding of the publication process with respect to an online blog. The applicant with prior editorial experience will be given preference over others.

2. ASSOCIATE EDITORS (NINE EDITORS REQUIRED)

Associate Editor (Law) – Four Editors Required

Role of the Associate Editor (Law): The Associate Editor (Law) is expected to have a good grasp on the subject of law and should be comfortable reviewing pieces that deal with legal issues of contemporary nature. An article is expected to be reviewed within a period of 14 days from the date of its receipt.

Eligibility Criteria: The applicants must be in or above the 3rd year of the 5-year law course or the 2nd year of the 3-year LL.B. course. The applicant with prior editorial experience in a legal blog/journal will be given preference over others. The applicant’s resume should display a penchant for legal research and writing.

Associate Editor (Public Policy & Governance) – Five Editors Required

Role of the Associate Editor (Public Policy & Governance): The Associate Editor (Public Policy & Governance) is expected to have a good grasp on the subjects of sociology, economics, politics, etc. The Associate Editor (Public Policy & Governance) should be comfortable reviewing pieces that deal with societal issues of contemporary nature. An article is expected to be reviewed within a period of 14 days from the date of its receipt.

Eligibility Criteria: The applicants must be a student of Economics, Political Science or any other related field. The applicant with prior editorial experience in an online blog/journal will be given preference over others. The applicant’s resume should display an inclination towards the subject-matter of Economics, Politics, or Policy.

3. ASSISTANT EDITORS (THREE EDITORS REQUIRED)

Role of the Assistant Editor: The Assistant Editor is expected to have a good command of the English language and the same should be reflected from his resume. The Assistant Editor is expected to conduct heavy editing and developmental work, and the Assistant Editor is expected to aid the Associate Editors in the review of a particular piece. The Assistant Editor will also assist the Publishing Editors and the Executive Editors in the discharge of their functions.

Eligibility Criteria: The applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate degree. There is no expectation of the applicant having prior editorial experience. The applicant’s resume should display an interest in writing.

Duration

The initial engagement period of the Editor will be six months which can be further extended upon request and the same would be evaluated on the basis of the performance of the editor.

Deadline:

  •  The last date for applying for editorship is 28th February, 2021.

Procedure to Apply:

  • A Cover Letter that should provide a brief profile of the applicant, and should also highlight their interests within the fields of law and public policy.
  • Resume
  • Writing Sample (Published or Otherwise).
  • Emailed to editorial.thesocialchronicle@gmail.com. 
  • Subject: “Application for XYZ Editor Position”. 
  • Specify whether you are applying for the domain of “Law” or “Public Policy & Governance” in case the applicant is applying for the Associate Editor Position.

Perks:

  • A Certificate will be issued at the end of the engagement period. A Letter of Recommendation will also be issued for candidates who perform exceptionally well.
  • Opportunities of Publication will be provided to the candidate.
  • Networking Opportunities with like-minded people within similar fields and industries.
  • It will help the candidate improve their editorial skills and enhance their editorial experience.
